Under Scafell unveils a hidden jewel beneath one of Britain’s highest peaks, the hidden waterfall of Netherbeck Falls. This extraordinary cuff celebrates both the mountain’s commanding presence and the delicate ecosystem it nurtures, brought to life through the skill of the master carver. The piece is sculpted from a treasured fragment of bog oak, part of the legendary Hemplands Haul, approximately thirty sub-fossilised oaks discovered in the ancient peat bogs of Norfolk’s Wissington fens.
Light cascades through the scene with shell gold illuminating every carefully considered detail: the geometric poetry of weathered rock faces, the gentle motion of wind-touched branches, and the eternal dance of falling water, meeting the tranquil pool below. In the distance, Scafell Pike stands sentinel, an unchanging guardian of this fragile landscape.
Set within black ruthenium-plated sterling silver, this intricate carving speaks in metaphor, its delicate execution echoing the vulnerability of both mountain habitat and the fenland peat bogs, while its strength, channels the mountain’s enduring form. A concealed clasp and hinge transform the cuff into an unbroken circle, mirroring the waterfall’s endless journey.
Brilliant white diamonds frame this miniature world, their clarity evoking the spring’s pristine waters and the increasingly precious snow and ice that crown the distant peak. Each element of Under Scafell tells a story of preservation and change, of strength and fragility, and of nature’s endless capacity to inspire.
