The Cove

Bog Oak
Black Ruthenium Plated Sterling Silver
18ct Rose Gold
18ct Yellow Gold
Palladium Shell
8.16ct Circular-Cut Sapphires

The Cove is an exploration of geological time, carved in graduated relief from ancient bog oak, a sub-fossilised wood from Britain’s lost indigenous rainforests, from trees that once stood over 4000 years ago. This piece is a homage to the North Cornish coastline, where millennia of elemental forces have sculpted a landscape of extraordinary complexity.

Rocks formed by the relentless choreography of wind, rain, and sea stand in elegant dialogue with ever-changing clouds and restless waves. Each contour, highlighted by palladium shell, becomes a conversation between permanence and transience – ancient stone carved against the fluid movements of sky and water. Sapphires frame this intricate scene, the bog oak hand burnished to capture the raw, salty wet essence of coastal stone, while carefully applied pigments breathe additional depth into the intricate relief.

The Cove is a wearable meditation on an at-risk naturescape, fragile yet resilient, unchanging yet in constant metamorphosis. Presented in a blackened sterling silver frame with 18 carat gold fittings, it transforms seamlessly between brooch and pendant, suspended from an 18 carat rose gold hand-linked chain.

This artefact whispers of time’s patient sculpting, of nature’s infinite complexity, and of the delicate boundaries between endurance and change.
