Envisioning the raven in wild nature, When Midnight Blooms is realised in hand-carved Whitby Jet. The raven’s powerful black wings are outstretched to reveal their full glory, and in doing so, they encircle an antique, enameled gold rose which holds a white diamond, glistening among its petals. This bold fine art piece is finished with a detachable handmade platinum chain.

Notes and provenance
It is the delicate interplay of dark and light that makes this work so commanding. The black-as-night raven sets its sights on the viewer, its graceful form swooping towards you to deliver the purest rose. A singular find, the rose was originally made by New York fine jeweller Black, Starr & Frost and dates back to circa 1890. Its heart-like petals are 18ct yellow gold, the edges still visibly gilded, whilst the rest is encased in ivory-hued enamel. A stunning white, round diamond acts as a dew drop and is set in platinum claws within the flower’s folds.
The raven that surrounds it is the work of a master carver who meticulously transformed a flawless Whitby Jet gemstone into this otherworldly form, with a spray of black diamonds enlivening its outstretched plumage. This centerpiece rests on a handmade platinum chain, laced with black diamond beads and secured with a barrel clasp.
A versatile piece, When Midnight Blooms hangs beautifully on the body as a pendant. Alternatively, the chain can be detached and the work transforms into a beguiling brooch thanks to a discrete rear pin.
